Ukiyo-e Style Painting

My husband and I were fetching our dog Winnie earlier this year and taking videos of her with our drone, as one does when they have an adorable dog. When we were replaying the video back at home, we paused at a hilarious time right where Winnie appeared to be cross-eyed seconds before catching the ball. When I saw this picture, I instantly was reminded of the Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock style portraiture and knew I’d need to create a grand portrait for Winnie in this style. I referenced the regal Musha-e (warrior) and silly kabuki (actor) styles to commemorate two aspects of her personality. The final painting is on canvas paper with acrylic gouache paint.
