Handmade Wooden Tray
Call me scrappy or masochistic (I suppose there’s an argument for both…) for creating a dovetail joint buffalo plaid tray on the island in my apartment using only a vice, two Japanese saws, a coping saw, a file, glue, chisels, clamps, sand paper, and mineral oil. All of the plaid pieces were hand cut to size from large blocks of wood. I’m not completely crazy, I did cave and buy an orbital sander to even down the plaid section. Otherwise I’d probably still be sanding.
Made with mahogany, cherry, and maple woods and a whole hell of a lot of sweat.

The tray in its new home next to the other buffalo plaid pieces and three sleepy pups.

Ahh, you are observant. Yes, the last two photos are in another location and with fancier tools. “Why didn’t you make the entire tray in that nice-looking woodshop that probably has all kinds of power tools?” you might ask. Well, this project took longer than expected and I had to finish up on Christmas Eve at my parent’s house. And yes, they happen to have a nice woodshop that would have been very nice to work in the entire time.
